Super Serious in ending world hunger - Yes, Seriously Johnny Mac
Restaurants and delis throw out tons of food at the end of each day into the garbage cans. When i approached them and questioned them why they dont give it to the hungry and homeless, their answers are the following:
1. afraid to get sued for food poisioning
2. dont want floods of homeless flooding the store for free food as words will spread
3. afraid that people will pretend to be poor and get free food instead of paying for them.
4. Do not want homeless hanging around their store stealing things or dirtying their store, affecting other customer's ambiance, affecting sales.
Therefore, they would rather throw the food in the garbage instead of saving lives.
Understandable. So heres the solution.
The current system use by numerous nonprofits is to gather the food from various locations like restaurants, deli, supermarkets with big trucks and then distribute the food to the hungry at a centralized center in each city.
I say this system is expensive and unnecessary, and should be replaced by a simpler system that requires a much smaller budget, if any.
The correct system is to allow the hungry to get the food directly from the restaurants and delis.
The homeless/hungry will get a qualified id card from the non profit in any one centralized location
if they could prove that they have no income and have true economic hardship and need food. This step will prevent fake homeless/hungry. The homeless will also sign paperwork not giving them the power to sue in case of food poisoning.
Then they will get the leftover food per quota directly from the participating restaurants/deli (that are willing to join the nonprofit network) upon showing their id at a specific time, eg 4 am, after the restaurant/deli business close down everyday. This way, none of the business activities are affected.
This system will eliminate the Nonprofit's high cost of gathering food and distributing it at some distribution center. And the funds of the nonprofit will be focused on setting up the above id system and food network.
Restaurants/deli can be persuaded to join the network with some marketing PR incentive. For eg.
their business names will be advertised or logo-ed with the Non-profit for full marketing exposure.
Or maybe free t-shirts could be given to the homeless to wear them displaying the nonprofit and businesses logos.
This is a win win idea for all - Free food for Free Marketing with minimal cost for the Nonprofit.
I believe the above system will solve world hunger.
