Not understanding the balance of food one intakes could at times create a risky imbalance, and under certain situations, endangers your life.
The Yin and Yang energies are not just about watching taiji or some fantasy martial arts kung fu on tv.
Neither is it some ancient asian myth or mystic art.
It simply refers to the energies around us- positive and negative- the yang and the yin. And the balance of the two.
As in hot or cold weather.
As in male and female personality - masculinity versus femininity.
As in emotions- active versus passive.
As in science, magnetism and electric- positive and negative charges.
And in food, the heating hot food that dehydrates us versus the cooling cold food that hydrates us.
The yin and the yang are all around us- one balancing the other, the way the universe was created.
In Eastern cultures, there tend to be a bigger discussion and understanding of it compared to the west.
Nowadays, practitioners such as in medicine, are trying to infuse this understanding to western methods.
It is important to put a strong awareness of the food and drinks we consume each day. It was often i bumped into friends who were having a fever or flu. And when i asked them what they think was the problem, they simply dont have a clue to the correct answer. Most believe it was weather related or seasonal, and had no clue or understanding the difference between a hot flu versus a cold flu. And most do not possess the knowledge on how to adjust correctly to self cure their illness without a cumbersome trip to the doctor.
If one had a dry cough and felt dehydrated, it was usually caused by excessive heat due to the imbalance of your diet. And if it was a cold cough,it will not be due to dryness or dehydration- it was caused by excessive intake of cooling food such as yin richedfruits.
Understanding the yin and yang of food helps u understand why you are sick and help you correct the illness yourself by balancing out the imbalance- by taking food that counter-balance the excess opposite. It also creates an important Awareness since when you over-consume a certain class of food,you will be aware of that over-consumption and Alert yourself to stop and immediately take counter balancing measures to prevent illness.
It is all about counter balancing the excesses with the opposite.
Counter yang situation with yin food.
Or counter yin situations with yang food.
Understanding this will save u tons of unnecessary trips to the doctors office.
And in certain situations, awareness could save your life!
For instance, most hard liquor is extremely dehydrating and overly heating.
And when combined carelessly with a overly heating diet or food, would create a very dangerous dehydrating condition, ferocious in heat, that could potentially claim your life, as it burns up certain brain vessels in a very short period of time.
A dangerous eg. would be combining any dehydrating hard liquor with a high level of ginseng - a popular Chinese herb., used as a vitamin and some form of cooking.
Having a basic knowledge of the yin and yang of food will create that important Awareness of what food NEVER to intake, what food can never be combined with certain food, being aware of the current state of your bodily yin and yang level so not to go over, and helping your friends counter their imbalances.
