It is ironic that the DOT (dept of traffic) has been very innovative in coming out with ways to
get drivers to behave, which include hidden cameras, heavier fines, and segregating lanes for trucks/buses. Yet a solution for heavy traffic gridlocks at heavy traffic intersection especially in big cities has not been formulated.
It is intriguing that the solution to gridlocks wont actually cost a penny or require additional workers or policemen.
Stuck within a traffic intersection, I was daydreaming driving one day, craving for a bad cigarette, and weirdly imagining if cars were ants or some big animals like elephants, what will they do?
And thats when i got the answer.
So whats the magic?
Shazam!
Gridlocks were usually caused by cars lining up within the traffic light intersection areas, blocking cars moving perpendicular to them.
A new simple law requiring the driver to only drive for the next lane, into the traffic light intersection,ONLY IF the room for one full car space is clearly available & visible in that next lane would easily solve this problem.
This is true if u were moving forward or turning left or right within the traffic light intersections. You must make sure that a full car space is available on the lane u are heading to before moving your car beyond the injunction line where the traffic lights are. If the full car space is not clearly available, do not move your car beyond that injunction line.
This simple rule prevents any perpendicular blockage which is what gridlocks is all about.
No longer do u need policeman to stand at intersections, hand signaling ferociously, trying to smooth out the traffic, often times making it worse.
Installing cameras at these busy intersections to enforce this new law is all it takes. Or announce this new law over public radio and social media to spread the word around. This new law needs only apply to heavy traffic areas, or certain streets or cities, or problematic traffic light areas.
Win Win for all with zero cost.
